Task 2- G321 Analysis of Napoleon Dynamite's Title Sequence

The title sequence starts with a plate of chicken nuggets which then switches to other plates of food on different plates and then a sound of tweeting birds in the morning starts I think this is done to show a sense of simplicity from the start of the title sequence, it then changes when the music kicks in it is quite upbeat so creates an atmosphere.











Then it shows a close up of the wallet where a card about aliens is picked out which shows the owner of this wallet is maybe a little bit geeky and believes in aliens also the next card which is pulled out is a high school card which tells us as and audience the film is probably set in America at a high school. After this there is more food put out on different plates on different carpets each time, on each plate there is name/title either on the plate or on the food spread out in some source, most of the food is unhealthy like nachos and corn dogs however there are some healthy foods like the banana from this the audience can see that maybe this film is about a teenager as most of the food is typical food which a teenager would eat.

We then see a ninja throwing star which shows us this character is obviously nerdy but also childish, we then confirm the idea a bit more about the character being nerdy when we see library books and also drawings of his made up fantasy. We then see that the character is obviously organised and enjoys learning as he is equipped properly for school by having 3 pencils, a rubber and protractor.

From the lyrics of the song where is says "I can tell that we are gonna be friends" suggests that maybe in the film the character is trying to be friends with some one who is like he is and other lyrics suggest that maybe this person is a girl which he want to be friends with. Some of the things in the sequence suggest that it is set in the present like the high school card and some of the food as well as other things. I believe that this title sequence is meant to give the audience an idea mainly about the character but also about the location and time period which I think it does because the sequence is done so simply which makes it easy to understand.
